OCULAR HEALTH

The Importance of Eye Health

Considering all the important things we do with our eyes, it is so important to maintain optimal visual health!

Did you know that some conditions can be treated with simple eye drops? Other conditions, however, such as glaucoma or macular degeneration may require more advanced care.

Woman Having Eyes Examined
Recommended Schedule

The American Optometric Association (AOA) recommends an eye exam every one to two years. Some conditions may require more frequent visits throughout the year.

Common Conditions

Some of the most common conditions we manage include:

  • Dry eye

  • Eye lid irritation

  • Conjunctivitis ("pink eye")

  • Hordeolum ("stye")

Systemic Health

Did you know that the eyes can give important information regarding your physical health? Conditions such as diabetes or high blood pressure ("hypertension") may first be noticed on a routine eye exam.

  • Ocular allergies

  • Foreign body removal

  • Cataracts

  • Glaucoma

  • Diabetic retinopathy

  • Hypertensive retinopathy

  • Macular degeneration

  • Vitreous degeneration ("floaters")

Diabetic Retina

Unfortunately, diabetes is one of the leading causes of vision loss in adults. That is why we encourage a dilated exam at least once per year for all diabetic patients. We are happy to send a report of our findings to your primary care physician.

Pre and Post-Op Care for Cataracts and LASIK

If your ocular health exam warrants surgical care for cataracts (i.e., a "clouding" of the crystalline lens that causes reduced vision) or if you are interested in LASIK, we are able to refer you to an ophthalmologist in the area for excellent care! We will work closely with your surgeon to assist in all pre and post-op needs.
