Eye Exam

What to Expect

​

Comprehensive eye exams for new patients usually takes between 30 to 60 minutes. Returning patients usually require less time (15 to 30 minutes). Your comprehensive exam includes: 

​​

  • A prescription for glasses or contact lenses

  • An eye pressure check

  • An ocular health assessment

  • A visual-functional assessment (e.g., eye alignment, convergence, peripheral vision, color vision)

​

Family Care

​

We provide eye exams to all members of the family starting at 3 months of age. For all children and adults, the American Optometric Association (AOA) recommends an eye exam at least once per year. For patients with eye conditions (e.g., cataracts, glaucoma, diabetes, high blood pressure), more frequent visits may be needed.

​

The AOA recommends scheduling your child's first eye exam at 6 months of age. If no concerns are found, your child should then be seen at 3 years of age. 

​
